Volunteer Opportunities at the

Old Colony Historical Society

The Old Colony Historical Society, founded in 1853, features a vast and varied collection of artifacts telling the story of the Taunton region’s rich history.  Highlights include displays of fine silver, military items, Native American artifacts, furniture, cast iron stoves, toys, and portraits.  There is also a local history and genealogical library on premises, filled with documents and images that chronicle the region’s history.  The Society sponsors lectures and demonstrations, has an active tour program, and is a center for local research.

There are many ways to get involved as a volunteer:

v     Office volunteers process bulk mailings and complete other office projects to help the staff.

v     Docents share the history of the Taunton region and are trained to lead tours for children and/or adults.

v     Library and archival aides assist patrons with their research, and assist the staff by arranging and properly preserving printed collections materials.

v     Curatorial aides help to preserve museum objects and work closely with collections.

v     Hospitality aides provide information to visitors and needed security supervision at special events.  They also assist with floral and food preparation.

You can decide to choose one or more, or all of these activities.  Volunteer commitments can be made on a regular basis, or as needed by the Society.  Training is by appointment.  Please print out and send the following application.
